RainWise Contractor in Seattle
Rain Gardens and Cisterns

Trillium Landscape Design is a certified RainWise contractor serving Seattle homeowners. Through the City of Seattle's RainWise program, we install rain gardens and cisterns that manage stormwater on your property and help you access rebates offered by Seattle Public Utilities.

If your property sits in a combined sewer overflow (CSO) drainage area, you may qualify for the program. We handle the consultation, design, and installation from start to finish.

What Is the RainWise Program?

RainWise is a Seattle Public Utilities initiative that helps homeowners reduce stormwater runoff from their rooftops. When heavy rain overwhelms the combined sewer system, it can overflow into Puget Sound and local waterways.

The program offers rebates to homeowners in eligible neighborhoods who install qualifying rain gardens or cisterns. As a certified RainWise contractor, Trillium manages the project from eligibility check through rebate application. You don’t have to navigate the city process alone.

Rain Gardens

A rain garden is a shallow, planted depression designed to capture and absorb rainwater from your roof, driveway, or paved surfaces. Instead of running off into the street or sewer, water soaks slowly into the ground.

We design rain gardens that are both functional and beautiful. Each one is planted with native, drought-tolerant species that thrive in wet and dry conditions alike. A well-designed rain garden fits naturally into your existing landscape and becomes lower maintenance as the plants establish.

Cisterns

A cistern captures rainwater directly from your downspouts and stores it for later use, typically for landscape irrigation. This keeps water out of the sewer system during heavy rain and gives you a resource for watering during Seattle’s dry summer months.

Cisterns can be installed above or below grade depending on your property’s layout and drainage needs. We size and position the system to fit your site and irrigation goals.

RainWise Rebates

Eligible homeowners can receive rebates from Seattle Public Utilities to offset the cost of installation. Rebate amounts are based on the size and type of installation and depend on your property’s location within a qualifying CSO drainage basin.

During your consultation, we confirm your eligibility and walk you through the rebate process. Our team handles the documentation and works directly with the city on your behalf, so the paperwork doesn’t slow down your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my property qualify for the RainWise program?

Your property must be in a combined sewer overflow (CSO) drainage basin in Seattle. We confirm eligibility during your consultation before any work begins.

How much does a RainWise installation cost?

Costs vary based on the size and type of system. Rebates from Seattle Public Utilities can significantly offset the investment. Contact us for a site-specific estimate.

Do rain gardens work in Seattle's climate?

Yes. Rain gardens are designed specifically for Pacific Northwest rainfall patterns. They manage heavy winter rain and stay functional through the dry summer with the right plant selection.

Can I add a rain garden to an existing landscape?

In most cases, yes. We work with your current layout to find the best location and design a rain garden that improves drainage without disrupting what’s already working in your garden.
